What are music construction kits?

August 11th 2015

‘Construction Kits’ vary in content, but those you’ll find in Trance Euphoria packs such as Future Trance 7 mostly consist of Wav audio files – in this specific case each kit contains WAV loops for each part of the kit, WAV stems (allowing you to reconstruct the demo track in your DAW), one shot samples for percussion hits and MIDI files for bass and lead parts, allowing you to replace these with your own sounds.

In terms of what you can and can’t do with these files in DAW software such as Logic X, this very much depends on what your aims are!

WAV stems and loops are fixed audio files – you cannot edit note data for them, or replace the sounds instantly, although using Logic’s Flex Pitch/ Time it is possible to change their musical key and tempo to some degree.

You can use the WAV stems/ loops to build up grooves that sound like the demo tracks very quickly, adding you own sounds as you arrange. Replacing main sounds such as bassline and lead synths is easy as you have corresponding MIDI files – you would however require suitable presets for Logic’s synths or third party instruments.
