Can software replace a professional mastering engineer?

Can software replace a professional mastering engineer?

October 3rd 2017

Newfangled Audio and seasoned hardware and software company Eventide seem to think so! Their tag line is “Mastering with a Brain”…

Apparently ‘Elevate’ is the ultimate in mastering plugins, combining years of audio tech experience with that of seasoned mastering engineers, along with “adaptive technology that responds in real time to your music”.

At $99 it’s obviously far certainly cheaper than a session with a high level mastering engineer, and we’ll be interested to hear how good it sounds!

According to Eventide’s blurb Elevate “utilizes 26 critical filter bands modeled from the human ear. Each of the bands are spaced to give maximum control over how the sound hits your eardrum”… perhaps a guard against those super harsh frequencies often found in masters created on certain well know *uhhh-humm* mastering suite software suites.

A demo version is available for users with an iLok account (free), we’ll be downloading it for sure to put it through it’s paces – watch this space!
